Smart Database Replication

Reliable, auditable delta replication between Netezza systems — for disaster recovery, reporting offload, and multi-appliance synchronisation. Configured once, monitored continuously from SMF Control Studio.

Replication That Runs Quietly in the Background

Smart Database Replication is a module within Smart Management Frameworks (SMF) that handles delta replication between Netezza systems in a controlled, repeatable, and auditable way. It keeps a target Netezza appliance or database continuously in sync with your source — without manual intervention.

Replication jobs are defined through the SMF Control Studio interface, where engineers can configure source and target connections, schedule windows, and alerting thresholds — without writing bespoke shell scripts or maintaining fragile NZSQL extract pipelines.

When replication fails or lags, SMF raises an alert through its event management system. There is no need to periodically check whether last night's job ran. If it did not, you will hear about it.

Need to replicate from Netezza to a cloud platform such as Databricks, Snowflake, or another non-Netezza target? That is handled by Smart Data Frameworks (SDF), our dedicated cross-platform replication and migration product.

What Smart Database Replication Does

Netezza-to-Netezza Delta Replication

Replicate incremental changes from a source Netezza appliance to one or more target Netezza systems. Keeps secondary systems current without full nightly refreshes.

Configurable Schedule

Run delta replication on a fully configurable schedule — hourly, nightly, or tailored to avoid contention with peak workloads. No event-driven complexity.

Fault Tolerant and Self-Recovering

Replication is designed to survive interruptions. When a network outage, system unavailability, or other transient fault clears, SMF automatically resumes from the point of failure — no manual intervention, no data loss, no gap-filling. Alerts notify you that a lag occurred; the engine handles recovery itself.

Full Audit Log

Every replication run is recorded: start time, end time, row counts, and status. Queryable through SMF Control Studio and reportable for compliance.

Web-Based Management

Configure, monitor, and control all replication jobs from the SMF Control Studio React web application. No command-line required for day-to-day operations.

Multiple Concurrent Targets

Replicate from a single source Netezza system to multiple target appliances simultaneously — for example, maintaining both a DR standby and a dedicated reporting instance from one replication job.

Common Replication Scenarios

Disaster Recovery & Failover Readiness

Keep a warm standby Netezza system continuously updated with production data. In the event of a hardware failure or planned maintenance, the secondary system can be promoted quickly without manual data reconciliation.

Reporting & Analytics Offload

Replicate production data to a dedicated Netezza reporting instance. Analysts get near-real-time access to current data without competing with production workloads — and production query performance is protected.

Cross-Platform Migration

Replicating from Netezza to Databricks, Snowflake, or another cloud platform? That requires Smart Data Frameworks (SDF), which is purpose-built for cross-platform delta replication to virtually any target database.

Multi-Site Data Distribution

Distribute specific datasets from a central Netezza instance to regional systems or downstream platforms. Useful for organisations with regional data centres or business units that need curated data subsets.
