Your Options When Retiring a Netezza System

Strip Down and Destroy

Remove hard drives and physically destroy them, then dispose of the chassis and components.

Recycle as a Functioning Unit

Securely erase all data and restore factory settings, allowing the system to be repurposed or dismantled for spare parts.

In either case, your system contains a significant volume of data, some of it highly sensitive, that needs to be destroyed. Physically dismantling the system may be more labour intensive and costly than preparing it as a fully operational unit for reuse.

Our service prepares your old Netezza system for immediate reuse and recycling, rather than having to be stripped down, broken up, and destroyed.

Secure Data Erasure

We securely erase all data in all databases at the physical device level, in such a way that it is forensically unrecoverable. This is not the same as issuing a logical "drop database" SQL command. The process takes 6 to 12 hours to overwrite every single block of data multiple times with random information.

Factory Reset

We re-initialise the database back to its original factory settings, so that any customer-specific information regarding users, groups, passwords, permissions, and other configuration is permanently removed.

System-Level Cleanup

We completely remove any non-standard settings, directories, or files at the Linux system level, including users, NFS shares, sendmail configuration, host names, LDAP settings, and other customer-specific customisations.
